The Education Officer is responsible for the day to day implementation of the Education field office activities with a particular focus on the implementation of the catch-up program activities (called the “CARED”), the Psycho Social Support Program (called the "BLP -Better Learning Program)", and all the support provided in formal schools in the Southwest and Northwest regions.
Responsibilities
A. Generic responsibilities.
- Ensure adherence to NRC policies, tool, handbooks, guidelines and donor requirements.
- Implement the Education activities according to strategy, proposals, budgets and work plans.
- Support the implementation of projects in accordance with the Education Strategy (including the psycho social support/BLP component, CARED and support to formal schools).
- Prepare periodic status reports and other documents as required by management.
- Ensure proper filing of documents.
- Break down the annual operational plans into quarterly monthly and weekly, implementation plans.
- Coordinate with relevant stakeholders (Regional delegation of Education, teachers, partners).
- Ensure that procurement, development and distribution of materials and equipment are timely and according to NRC procedures.
- Provide technical and tailored training to the education programme team and partner staff.
- Promote and share ideas for technical improvement of the Education Strategy in order to improve the quality of activities.
- Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need, and explore and assess new and better ways to assist children and youth.
- Actively participate in the data collection of the education program (including NRC's BLP program) and the various feasibility studies.
- Oversee all Education activities (especially the catch-up and BLP programs as well as interventions in formal schools) including training, distributions, surveys, teacher supervision and reporting.
- Initiate and strengthen psycho social support and referral systems in all field offices.
B. Specific responsibilities
- Ensure proper data collection and tracking of all emergency interventions and participate in compiling emergency related internal (bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly) and external (interim and final) reports.
- Support the Education PDM and partners in the preparation and organization of various training sessions, workshops and sensitization sessions on education with a particular focus on the NRC's psycho social support program, the BLP (Better Learning Program), and the catch-up/CARED activities.
- Conduct needs assessments related to Education.
- Support the Education PDM in the following activities: coaching and mentoring to teachers during the implementation of program activities (including the implementation of catch-up/CARED classes, activities in formal schools as well as BLP activities), organizing the follow-up of meetings, assisting teachers in developing work plans etc.
- Support during the presentation (including awareness raising to communities), engagement and follow-up (including parent's follow-up) during implementation of the education program activities.
- Support and be responsible for the proper collection of data; i.e. for teacher training, student evaluation pretest, post-test, group discussion, etc.).
- Take responsibility for any materials, tools, vehicles, communication equipment provided by NRC.
- Lead the organization and facilitation of training in CARED implementation, psychosocial support, life skills, content and pedagogy.
- Support the Education team in developing training for teachers and school management committees (SMCs) including follow-up and support.
- Participate in cluster meetings when required and in consultation with the Education PDM.
- Determine training needs of teachers and SMCs in collaboration with partners and the Education PDM.
- Determine resource materials required for effective teaching including improvised teaching and learning materials to supplement school supplies provided to schools.
- Provide teaching kits within targeted school in consultations with teachers.
- Support NRC activities at school level in collaboration with the Ministry of Education officials and Education PDM.
- Support the establishment of a community complaints and accountability mechanism.
- Work closely with NRC partner staff in the implementation of education program activities.
- Produce high quality reports and ensure its submission in a timely manner.
- Ensure the quality and regular monitoring of the progress of education activities in close coordination with the regional delegation of Education and the PDM.
- Other relevant tasks as assigned by the Education PDM or Area manager.
Qualifications
A. General professional skills:
- At least two years' experience in the field of education.
- Professional experience as Project Officer/ Team Leader in a humanitarian/recovery context.
- Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
- Proven track record of working with, training and supervising local implementing partners.
- Experience with rural communities and knowledge of local languages spoken within areas of intervention.
- Knowledge of national and international norms and standards relating to education.
- Documented results related to the position's responsibilities.
- Knowledge about own manager skills/profile.
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal and knowledge of French is an asset.
- Computer skills: MS Office required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
B. Context related skills, knowledge and experience
- Knowledge of the crisis context in the North West & South West Regions.
- Background in Education.
- At least a Bachelors Degree in Education (especially Education in Emergencies) or Psychology.
- Experience in developing training packages (education related).
- Experience in delivering ToT.
- Good-level competency in computer skills (common Microsoft Windows and Office applications).
- Proven skills and experience in report writing.
- Strong organizational and logistical skills and the ability to work with little infrastructure and to function in difficult situations including limited transport options.
We Offer:
- Beginning: May 2026.
- Duration of the contract: 09 months, renewable depending on the availability of funds.
- Salary / Benefits: In accordance with NRC's Salary Grid, including 90% health insurance coverage.
